James's notes on Topic 27 — triage (30 September 2026)
Source: reviews/james/NOTES_G3T27_2026-09-30.md (one note, on the intro script) and his chat ruling of ~16:30. None of Topic 27's videos exists.
In plain words
Lumi is by a river, not a creek. The intro asks two questions (one headache question and the ready line) instead of five, stays in its one scene, and is 120 words. The lesson scripts' five "Here's the rule" openers are natural closes now.
The table
| his note (verbatim) | action | where |
|---|---|---|
| "Kids won't know what a creek is. If it's a river, just say a river." | applied: "Here's Lumi by a river with her class…"; the blurb "By a river, Lumi turns over…"; the cartoon brief ("by a shallow river… the river bed"), its key renamed cartoon_river_class; the same swap in Topic 25's PP-5 and (as "stream") a Topic 24 PP option | content/G3T27.py intro and blurb, content/figures.py, records/FIGURES_G3T27_2026-09-28.md |
| "You should already be doing a readability check for unusual words like this. You should be able to identify a good source of grade 3 science words and try and stick to them where possible, or just heavily question any word that's being introduced outside of that." | the check is the other agent's (S36 in build_tools_check_topic.py, grade3/records/READABILITY_SWEEP_2026-09-30.md); the RULE is in the vault (10 Rules/Say the specific thing.md, 2026-09-30 everyday-word extension) with his words as origin; its swaps for Topics 22–42 are applied and listed in grade3/records/RULE_PHRASING_SWEEP_2026-09-30.md | vault; course record |
| "Also, I'm noticing that you're always asking lots of questions in an intro. Here, you're asking five questions. That's too many. You should limit it to three questions maximum, and ideally just one or two." | applied here (5 → 2): beat 3 "Most dead things don't last. So how did this one? And how long has it been lying here?" → "Most dead things rot away and are gone. Yet this one has lasted, in solid rock, for a very, very long time."; beat 4 "What kind of fish was it, and how big did it grow? And was this dry, stony creek even here when it swam?" → "So how did it last, and what can it tell us about the fish, and about this place, long ago?"; the ready line stays. Applied across Topics 22–42 (twelve intros re-cut, table in the sweep record); vault: the intro decision's 2026-09-30 questions refinement; check_brief.py intro/questions (> 3 FAIL, 3 WARN) | content/G3T27.py; vault |
| (the same day's rule ruling) L01, L03, L04, L05 "Here's the rule." | L01 → "So, after a living thing dies, its body usually rots away…" (consequence); L03 → "So, ask two questions. Did a living thing leave it? Is it from long ago? Two yeses mean it's a fossil." (routine); L04 and L05 → "So, a fossil shows…" (routine) | content/G3T27_lessons.py |
Judgements
- His "five questions" is the count of question marks with the ready line included (2 + 2 + 1), so that is the count the rule and the checker use.
- The chips "HOW DID IT LAST? · HOW LONG AGO?" went with beat 3; the rewritten beat shows the rock alone with chip IT LASTED — no question on screen.
- Checker: 0 FAIL. Intro 120 words, 2 question marks, one scene.
