James's notes on Topic 29 — triage (2 October 2026)
Source: reviews/james/NOTES_G3T29_2026-10-02.md. Three notes (L01, L03, the summary). None of this topic's videos exists, so every change is a text edit; nothing is committed.
In plain words
L01 says the Sun "isn't like the fires you see here on Earth either. For example, a campfire needs wood and air, and the Sun has neither." L03 says "mid-day", not "noon". The summary asks the three questions in your words — "What is the Sun? Is there anything else like it? What does the Sun do for Earth?" — and answers each in the next sentence; "Earth is a tiny dot beside the Sun"; "Nothing shines light onto the Sun. It makes its own light."; the stove-and-lamp sentence is gone; and the Sun is always there: "At night we cannot see the Sun, and things cool down." That last correction is applied everywhere the topic said "the Sun is not in our sky" (L02's night scene, L03's article, caption, script and quiz, the practice item, the blurb).
The table
| his note (verbatim) | action | where |
|---|---|---|
| "It's obvious that the Sun isn't a campfire, so you can just introduce this a bit more gently. It isn't like the fires you see here on Earth either. For example, a campfire needs wood and air." | applied: script beat 7 in your words; article subtitle "Not a fire like ours", "The Sun isn't like the fires you see here on Earth either. For example, a campfire burns wood and needs air. When the wood is gone, the fire goes out." | content/G3T29_lessons.py L01 article and script |
| "it's mid-day is probably better than noon for g3" | applied: headache, article, script, one quiz stem | L03 |
| "'What the Sun is, what it's one of, and what it does for Earth.' - i think these would be better phrased as questions… i also think more connectives would help." | applied: "First, what is the Sun? The Sun is a huge ball of glowing gas." / "Next, is there anything else like the Sun? Yes. The Sun is a star…" / "Then, what does the Sun do for Earth? The Sun is the main source of the energy reaching Earth."; connectives "But", "So", "In fact" | content/G3T29.py summary |
| "be wary of 'it' - 'the Earth is a tiny dot beside it,' it isn't clear. Earth is a tiny dot beside the sun." | applied: "Earth is a tiny dot beside the Sun: more than a hundred Earths fit across the Sun." Vault: Say the specific thing, 2026-10-02 section | summary beat 3; vault |
| "'Nothing lights up the Sun.' - I change this to the Sun, but the Sun makes its own light." | applied: "Nothing shines light onto the Sun. It makes its own light." — also the lexicon sentence, so L01's forest line and the summary match | summary beat 5; lexicon |
| "'A stove or a lamp gives some warmth and light too. But most of it comes from the Sun.' This doesn't make sense… just Delete." | applied: deleted from the summary. L03's article keeps its own two lines (the stove warms the cocoa; most of the light and warmth on Earth comes from the Sun), which do not make the false claim | summary |
| "'At night the sun isn't in our sky' - Incorrect. The Sun is always in the sky. At night, we can't see the Sun, and things cool down." | applied in your words in the summary, and swept through the topic: L03 forest, article ("At night we cannot see the Sun, and no sunlight lands on the slide"), caption, script, Tibor's quiz item; L02's night scene ("She cannot see the Sun now. Thousands of tiny points of light fill the sky."); the practice item ("At night, you cannot see the Sun. Does the Sun's light land on your street then?"); the blurb; the module's own design note | G3T29.py, G3T29_lessons.py |
Judgements
- Summary 184 → 171 words: "Drawn to size" dropped, "the Sun is the star closest to Earth" dropped from the summary (L02 keeps it), "That's the whole topic" tail cut. L01 157 → 149 (the three-question beat folded to "Is it a rock, or is it on fire?"; the stove ring beat shortened). L03 152 → 147.
