Topic 7 "Pushes and pulls change things" — your read (28 September 2026, night)

Five lessons: a push or pull starts a still thing moving; a push or pull against the way a thing moves slows or stops it; a push or pull from the side turns it; a push or pull can change its shape; and a fair test changes one thing. "Force" is used (Topic 5 coins it); one new term, fair test, coined in L05 after the plan has done the teaching. Read by the author as you, then a non-author review (34 rows, all but two applied — the two are yours, below), then one cold read of every changed item (all 35 agree). Reply by number.

The two that unblock the bank

1. Do these typed hard types work for you? Your 28 Sep night ruling is applied without asking: the bank's two hard types are text entry; the six easy and medium types are four-option MCQs and are the bulk (about 24 easy, 12 medium, 12–16 typed in a bank of about fifty). The accept lists are generated beside the page grader, so every article, possessive and apostrophe-less form a child types is in.

Recommendation: approve both; no numeric type is planned because nothing in this topic is a number. Approve both / edit the accept lists / say what else

2. Do the eight question types stand? Nine exemplars on eight types; coverage table with no empty row; type 5 (the four-way sort: started moving / slowed or stopped / changed direction / changed shape) carries every pair among the four change atoms; type 6's two forms pair the fair test with the turn and with the shape. The eight types and the coverage table Approve all / strike these / edit these

Two calls the review left to you

3. Where does a push arrow start on a small round thing? Topics 6 and 7 draw the arrow on the far edge of a ball or a boat, pointing away from the pusher, so it never crosses the thing; the reviewer reads that as "the ball pushing itself". Your oldest drawing rule is "the arrow begins where the hands make contact". What changes: one register line in Topics 6 and 7 and about six figures. Keep the far edge / start at the contact point and let it cross the thing / start at the contact point and stop at the thing's edge

4. Lesson 2 stops at "against the way it moves". It never says what a push from behind does to a moving thing (speeding up is a later atom). A strong student may ask. Leave it / add one sentence saying that comes later

The lessons

5. L01 A push or pull starts things moving — the same swing with and without a push; a wagon pulled; a nail started by a magnet's pull without touching; the nail alone stays still. Article · script · quiz Fine / say where

6. L02 A push or pull can slow or stop things — the rolling ball with and without her hands; a sled pulled back by its rope; a swing held. "Stopping needs a force too." Article · quiz Fine / say where

7. L03 A push or pull can change direction — drawn from above: the rolling ball with and without a push from the side ("away from his foot"); a wagon pulled left; a toy boat pushed by the wind. Article · quiz Fine / say where

8. L04 A push or pull can change shape — clay squeezed, a rubber band pulled, a sponge pressed; the same hands on a wooden block change nothing. Article · quiz Fine / say where

9. L05 Test what a push does — Orla's brother's big car rolls farther: was it the car or his push? Three runs with the same car, the same start line, the same floor; then a run on a sloping floor that nobody can read. Coins "fair test" on the rule. Article · quiz Fine / say where

Applied without asking (one line each)

Attached questions stand alone with their own scene, three drawn (your night rule) · hard bank items typed (your night rule) · Felix's claim TRUE (claims 4 no / 3 yes) · eleven names renamed so no name repeats across the course · Topic 7 yields nine scenes Topics 5 and 8 used first (drawer, stroller, shopping cart, book, pin, kicked ball on grass, sled by its rope in L01, suitcase, dog's nose) · a still car pushed from the side "starts moving sideways", never "turns" · every arrow starts on the thing · the L05 non-example and PP-9 use a slope, not a bigger car.
