Topic 9 "Balanced forces" — your read (28 September 2026, night)

Five short lessons, one idea each, built from your Forces pack where it fits (more than one force; balanced, stays still; balanced, steady speed) and two fresh ones (a still thing HAS forces — the table pushes the book up; balanced or not, by comparing two arrows). A non-author review found three blocking faults and seventeen fixes; all are made. One cold reader then answered every changed item and agreed with every key. Three things need your word; the rest is done.

The one that decides the drawings across two topics

1. How is the surface's backward force drawn and named — the grass on the wagon, the snow on the sled? Topic 9 and Topic 10 had two answers. Applied here, pending your word: Topic 10's NAME and COLOUR — "the grass rubs on the wheels and drags the wagon back", "the grass's drag", a dark-blue pull-back arrow — but NOT its geometry: the pull starts where the handle or rope joins the wagon, and the drag starts at the wagon's back at a lower height, so a child sees two arrows, never one double-headed line. Topic 10's author is making the same geometry change. Friction is not named (it is a grade 4 atom).

2. Do the nine question types stand? Built from the lessons' own forms with four options; the coverage table shows every atom tested alone and in a pair. Two are typed: the medium one asks for the word "balanced"; the hard one is a one-word cloze on a drawing — a girl pulls a suitcase, her pull and the floor's drag the same length, "the suitcase's speed stays the ___" (same / steady). Every exemplar sits on a scene no lesson or quiz uses.

The lessons

3. Are the five lessons right for the videos? L03 coins the topic's one word after its plain meaning ("the two pulls are the same strength… we say the forces are balanced") and says outright that balance compares two forces — one force alone cannot be balanced. L05 shows balanced on a MOVING sled with two equal arrows, and says "balanced does not mean still". A crane's box rising at a steady speed is drawn, with a bridge from Topic 3: the cable pulled harder to START it moving; now the two pulls are the same strength. Your Topic 3 line "the table is in the way" is corrected here without being quoted: L02 says the table pushes the book up.

4. Where does the table's push arrow start? Drawn from the top of the book, as Topic 3 drew it; the force acts at the underside. Keep Topic 3's way / start it at the underside

5. Topic 3 says "the table is in the way" about fifteen times. The misconception catalogue lists that as the wording that plants "the table just blocks". Recommendation: soften it there to "the table holds the book up" when Topic 3 is next touched; Topic 9 already teaches "pushes". Soften Topic 3 / leave it
