The lessons and their rules
| Lesson | Atom | Rule sentence |
|---|---|---|
| L01 What the stomach does to your lunch | LIF5-050 | The stomach squeezes food. It mixes the food with juices. The juices start to break the food down. |
| L02 How the useful parts of food reach your legs | LIF5-051 | The intestines take the useful parts of food into the blood. The blood carries them round the body. The rest moves on and leaves the body. |
| L03 What the liver does | LIF5-052 | The liver makes a juice. The juice helps break down fatty food. The liver also cleans harmful things out of the blood. |
| L04 The hidden organ behind the stomach | LIF5-053 | The pancreas sits behind the stomach. It makes juices. The juices help break food down in the intestines. |
| L05 The path a bite of food takes | LIF5-054 | Mouth, then stomach, then intestines. The liver and the pancreas add their juices in the intestines. The useful parts go into the blood; the rest leaves the body. |
The intro script (113 words, about 56 s)
Here's Alma in the school cafeteria. She eats a slice of pizza and drinks a carton of milk. By afternoon recess, the pizza and the milk are gone. But Alma is not tired at all. She runs and climbs for the whole of recess. The pizza went into her an hour ago, and it is not a slice of pizza any more. So where did the pizza go, and what happened to it inside her? To find out, we will look at the parts inside you that handle your food, and the path a bite of food takes through them. Okay, so are you ready to find out what happens to your lunch?
The question types (from TYPES_G5T30.md)
- Type 1 (easy · MCQ, the JOB4 set · 050, 051, 052, 053): what a named organ does to a named food — squeezes food and mixes it with juices / takes the useful parts of food into the blood / makes a juice for fatty food and cleans the blood / makes juices that help break food down in the intestines
- Type 2 (easy, medium · MCQ, the ORG4 set · 050, 051, 052, 053 (+ 050 medium)): which organ does a described job; which organ is coloured in the body drawing (four drawings, one per organ); which organ makes the stomach's juices; which organ is in front of the pancreas — the stomach / the intestines / the liver / the pancreas
- Type 3 (easy, medium · MCQ, the AFTER4 set and kin · 050): what a named food is like an hour after it reaches the stomach; why it becomes a soupy mush; which sentence is true of it after an hour — a soupy mush / a whole piece, just as it was / dry crumbs / a hard lump; four single statements
- Type 4 (easy, medium · MCQ · 050, 051, 052, 053): where an organ sits or what it is like (the stomach high in the belly below the lungs; the intestines longer than a car; the liver under the ribs on the person's right; the pancreas a long, flat organ) — four single statements
- Type 5 (easy, medium · MCQ, the WHERE4 set and kin · 051, 052, 053): where the useful parts go; what happens to the parts the body cannot use; how the useful parts reach the fingertips; what they pass through; which part the intestines take; where the liver's juice acts; which food needs it most; what the liver does to the blood; the liver's other job; where the pancreas's juices meet the food and when — into the blood / back up to the stomach / straight out of the body / into the lungs; four single statements
- Type 6 (easy · MCQ, the NEXT4 set · 054): which organ a swallowed bite reaches first; where food goes after the stomach — the mouth / the stomach / the intestines / the liver
- Type 7 (medium · MCQ, the PAIR4 set and kin · 054): which pair adds juices in the intestines; which organ food passes through; which organ sends a juice but never holds the food; where the useful parts were when they entered the blood; which list is in the right order — the liver and the pancreas / the stomach and the heart / the lungs and the liver / the pancreas and the heart; the organs; three orders
- Type 8 (hard · MCQ · 051, 052, 053, 054): two ideas chained: how the useful parts reach the toes; why fat can be broken down in the intestines; which organ makes the OTHER juice; why the pancreas's juices never meet food in the pancreas; where fat is broken down and which juices help — four single statements, every option in one frame
- Type 9 (hard · typed · 052): the name of the organ that makes a juice for fatty food AND cleans the blood, from a fresh fatty food — accept liver, the liver, a liver, her liver, livers, livver, lliver; stomach / intestines / pancreas / heart each with their own line
- Type 10 (hard · reorder · 054): the places a food goes, first to last (three); the steps a smoothie goes through, first to last (four, two inside the intestines) — the mouth → the stomach → the intestines; the girl swallows → the stomach squeezes and mixes → the two juices added → the intestines take the useful parts into the blood
- Type 11 (hard · multi-select, the ORG4 set · 054): the TWO organs that add their juices in the intestines — the set {the liver, the pancreas}
Five lessons for five atoms, in Miss Dufresne's class with Reed, Aiden and Alma.
Reed's cheese sandwich is a soupy mush an hour after lunch, so L01 teaches that the stomach squeezes food and mixes it with juices that start to break it down, and coins the topic's one general word: a part inside the body with its own job is called an organ.
The useful parts of Aiden's pasta reach his legs two hours later though the pasta went into his belly, so L02 teaches that the intestines take the useful parts into the blood and the rest moves on and leaves the body.
Alma's fried breakfast has a lot of fat, and fat is hard to break down, so L03 teaches that the liver makes a juice that helps break down fatty food and cleans harmful things out of the blood.
Nobody in the class can name the organ peeking out from behind the stomach on the board drawing, so L04 names the pancreas and its juices that help break food down in the intestines.
Then the routine: Reed's bite of apple is traced mouth → stomach → intestines, with the liver and the pancreas adding their juices there.
No enzyme, acid or bile; "stomach" is Grade 4's word recalled in one line; no child voices a claim; every order key runs first to last as its stem asks.
The non-author review and fix pass is applied (no must-fix, fourteen worth fixing, every key letter unchanged); the two cold readers are owed; pictures are placeholders.
The questions the author put to you
none
Questions for James
none. The author's seven judgement calls were checked and stand (typed "organ" and "liver" in the practice set; "longer than a car"; L04 marked "could do without a video" but scripted and in the batch; the useful-parts / rest frame; "organ" coined here; the pancreas drawn peeking out from behind the stomach — now actually drawn so; no digestive system, bile or enzyme). Nothing left open would change what a student learns.
Applied without asking
8 Oct 2026, the non-author pass (James's 2 Oct rule: text is cheap, go with the improvement): the pancreas is now drawn behind the stomach with its lower edge showing, as its caption always said; the liver is drawn larger than the stomach, as the line "the largest organ inside the belly" says; the path card's "useful parts into the blood / the rest leaves the body" note moved from under the MOUTH box to a note headed "In the intestines:"; L04 no longer calls an organ the class is looking at "out of sight" and no longer says "most people have never heard of it"; L05's "soon it will be inside his body" became "soon he will swallow it"; "goes to the toilet" became "goes to the bathroom"; L04's where-does-the-pancreas-sit item lost its silly distractors ("inside the heart") for the liver's and the intestines' places; the practice item on buttered waffles no longer offers the pancreas against "which organ makes a juice for the fat"; the bank's "an organ makes a juice for fatty food" item now also names the liver's second job; the practice hot-dog item (the summary's scene) is now a slice of ham; the practice FRQ (L05's carrot FRQ renamed, on the summary's peach) is now a fresh task starting as the food leaves the stomach; the smoothie order item's steps are active sentences with a named actor; the pork-chop item's options are sentences; the fried-breakfast photo placeholder, which sat on no page, is now in L03. Keys unchanged throughout; nine ids changed in wording and three in drawing, listed for the cold readers.

After you answer
Nothing waits on you here. The two cold readers read the re-cut bundle (blind/2026-10-08-reviewed/, the nine changed ids first); the picture pass starts on the seven placeholders; the batch (7 videos, built and checked, not sent) waits for your word on the Grade 5 Life sample.
What the reviews found, and what changed
