Your questions on this topic (1) — one tap each

1. Does evidence "show" an idea is true, or "help show" it?

Lesson 3 (Evidence that Earth's pull points toward the ground) coins: "Something you can see that shows an idea is true is called evidence." NGSS's verb is "support an argument": evidence supports, it does not prove.

Built: "shows" — the plain word, in the lexicon, Lesson 3 (Evidence that Earth's pull points toward the ground), the summary and twelve items. Changing it is one word in each place ("helps show an idea is true").

My recommendation: keep "shows". A ten-year-old's first meeting with the word wants the plain claim; the support-not-proof idea is a grades 6-8 practice

The lessons (3)

Each lesson in teaching order: its one-line summary, the article, the script and the quiz, then your ruling.

Topic 1 · Lesson 1 · Video / article words: 147 / 292 · Quiz items: 10 · Figures: 4

Lesson 1 Earth pulls on everything, all the time

Earth pulls on every object all the time, whether it is falling, resting or flying; a resting object stays still because something holds it up (the seat arm, the ground, the air on the wings); Earth's pull on a thing is called its weight (recalled)

Topic 1 · Lesson 2 · Video / article words: 146 / 286 · Quiz items: 9 · Figures: 6

Lesson 2 Down means toward Earth's center

Earth is a huge ball; two balls on opposite sides fall toward the same point; down means toward Earth's center, wherever you stand; people in Australia stand with their feet on the ground; the ground looks flat because we see a tiny piece of a huge ball

Topic 1 · Lesson 3 · Video / article words: 150 / 349 · Quiz items: 10 · Figures: 6

Lesson 3 Evidence that Earth's pull points toward the ground

Evidence coined; the pencil, the raindrops and the still key show which way Earth pulls, the blown key shows her breath's push; a thing that falls straight toward the ground with nothing pushing it is evidence that Earth's pull points toward the ground
