Topic 25 "Dangerous weather" — your read (28 September 2026, night)
The last of the weather topics in Earth & Space. Three lessons: dangerous weather brings a harm and each harm does its own damage; nobody can stop the weather, but a defense holds one harm back; the best explanation is the one that fits everything you observed. Read by the author as you, then a non-author review (45 findings; 41 applied, 2 are yours below, 2 were notes for other topics), then a cold read of every changed item (30 items; 29 of 29 keys agreed after one ambiguous ask was rewritten; four further flags applied, one noted). The three that unblock the bank
1. Do the ten question types stand, with the typed hard tier?
Your night ruling is applied: hard is typed — the defense a farmer puts on the barn roof against summer thunderstorms (lightning rod), the harm storm shutters hold back (wind), and the harm that did the damage on a drawn evidence card (wind, with the card never printing the word). Easy and medium are four-option MCQs and the bulk. 2. Does the one safety line stay in L01 — "When you hear thunder, go indoors."?
L01 tells a child that lightning can set a barn roof on fire, and the reviewer felt it left the natural question unanswered. The coordinator added this one sentence after "That is the damage lightning does." in the article and the script. It is behaviour, not a design solution, so it belongs to no atom; the lesson is otherwise about what people build.
Recommendation: keep it — six words, calm, and it answers the question a child asks.

3. Rain in millimeters follows Topic 22 — and here is what changes if you choose inches.
L03's evidence is the class weather table (Topic 22's own drawing) showing 40, 44 and 38 mm of rain on three days, and two items read a rain gauge (24 mm; 0 mm). If you rule inches on Topic 22's page, those three figures and two whys change with it, and nothing else in this topic does.
Recommendation: millimeters, as Topic 22 — one seam, fixed once.

4. "Ground floor" (14 uses) — keep, or "the floor of the house"?
The register's own example for EAR3-013 says "the ground floor of a house". A US eight-year-old more often says "downstairs" or "the first floor".
Recommendation: keep, since it is the register's word; say if you want it changed.

5. "Dangerous weather brings a harm" — keep the countable "a harm"?
Every lesson and item uses it the same way, and the list that follows ("flood water, strong wind, lightning or deep snow") makes the meaning plain. It is unusual English for a child.
Recommendation: keep; the alternative is "brings one of four harms" at the coin.

6. L01 Weather can do damage — Isadora at her window: three days of rain, the river high. Rain is just water; can it do any damage? The river rises over its banks and flood water soaks the ground floor. Then the Florida coast: a hurricane is a huge storm from the sea, and one harm it brings is strong wind, which tears the shingles off roofs and knocks trees down (a tornado brings strong wind too). A thunderstorm's lightning can set a barn roof on fire; a blizzard's deep snow blocks the roads. One ordinary rainy afternoon fills two puddles and does no damage. Rule last, in a table. 7. L02 A defense holds the harm back — Rupert's front door, the river rising again; last spring the water came in. Nobody can stop the rain, so he and his dad stack sandbags across the doorway, and the floor stays dry: a defense. The town's levee; storm shutters against the wind; a lightning rod that gives lightning a safe path to the ground; a snow fence that drops the drift in the field; a windbreak. Then the non-example: on a day of strong wind, the wind blows straight over the levee — a defense works when it holds back the harm that is coming. 8. L03 Choose the best explanation — Harriet's fence lies flat on Tuesday morning. Her brother says a cow; her mom says the wind. What she observed, on a card: the fence's top toward the east, branches everywhere, the wind howling from the west all night, no cows near, the posts new with no rot. Each explanation checked in one frame — "Does it fit what Harriet observed?" — a cross, a cross, a tick. Liking the cow does not make it fit.
